A lovely walk up two new fells - Knott Rigg, then on up to Ard Crags was planned. The weather forecast was looking fine, so off we set.

However the Lake District weather had other things in mind. Conditions weren't as good as expected when we arrived at the car park. The more we rose, the more the clouds (and rain) descended, so we only made it up to Knott Rigg before calling it a day.

Typically, no sooner had we made it back to the car and made the short drive down to Buttermere village than the clouds disappeared and out popped some glorious sunshine.

So we swapped the planned ascent of Ard Crags with an amble around the shores of Buttermere. We even rounded off the day with ice cream from Syke Farm tea room - a perfect example of changeable Lake District weather!
