We had some friends visit us that we've not seen for a while, and I always love to show off how close we live to the Lake District, so I decided to take them down to Sale as it's the closest walk to Carlisle that feels properly in the Lakes.

Now we've got the two gremlins in two, it's a great option as they can manage all of it without being carried.

We got up early hoping to make it a sunrise walk, but we set off a touch late so missed the sunrise, however we were still rewarded with an incredible frosty morning and the sun beaming over the frozen white fields.

It was -3 degrees when we set off, but there was no wind which was fortunate...until we got to the top, and the wind would cut through your layers and make everything that bit chilly. We took a few photos and started to descend and head to the viewpoint that looks over Bassenthwaite and Skiddaw...

Stunning.

I can't believe I've only just discovered the bench that sits there looking over what must be one of the best / easiest views in the area!

Then we headed down for a well deserved cuppa from our flask (probably the reason we were late setting off..)

I can highly recommend this route to anyone that wants an easy walk with the kids (ours are 4 and 6)
